There are two new displays in the lobby outside of the 4th floor Government Documents Collection. Oklahoma History presents books and blurbs on our great state. Although one of the youngest states in the nation, Oklahoma is a land that reaches far back in time. Formed by the combination of Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory on November 16, 1907, Oklahoma is a land of diversity in both its history and its people. The largest ancestry groups in Oklahoma are German, Irish, English, African American, and Native American. Oklahoma history is like no other.
The UN Women display presents blubs and information on the July 2010 created United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women organization, or UN Women for short. By creating this organization the UN Member States through the General Assembly took an historic step in accelerating the goal of gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide. The UN Women organization acts on the fundamental premise that women and girls globally have the right to live a life free of discrimination, violence, and poverty.
