NORMAN – Pat Hawthorne, a library administrator with decades of leadership experience, has been named as the University of Oklahoma Libraries’ associate dean for Exploration and Engagement. In this position, Hawthorne will have broad responsibilities that will support student learning and facilitate university research and expand the libraries’ engagement with the campus and community.
Hawthorne served as the interim chief administrative officer for the Emory University Libraries prior to accepting the position at OU. During her 25-year career, Hawthorne has served as director of Research and Learning Services for Texas State University in San Marcos; as director of Library Human Resources for the UCLA Library; as assistant university librarian for Administrative Services for the University of Miami Library in Coral Gables, Fla.; as administrative projects librarian for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; and as government information and social sciences reference librarian at Louisiana State University Libraries in Baton Rouge. Prior to working in libraries, Hawthorne was a journalist and public relations specialist.
Rick Luce, dean of University Libraries, said, “Pat has extensive experience managing change within research libraries, a much-needed skill as OU Libraries moves forward on several strategic initiatives. This position will be critical in leading efforts to support data management on campus, enable student and faculty collaboration and learning facilitated by expertise and collaborative technologies, establish a Digital Humanities center, and expand our outreach and academic engagement services.”
