Project Highlight: Bizzy Chat Bot

Project Highlight

An example of the Bizzy chatbot interface

Bizzy is the libraries AI Chatbot, developed to answer Level I & II questions of the READ scale for library patrons. Bizzy is available when the libraries Learning Lab is closed and staff are unavailable to answer chat questions.

This project started in 2017 when campus IT put Alexa dots in dorm rooms. The libraries began experimenting with AI by creating an Alexa skill that could answer questions about the library, and could search Primo and Lib Guides. This pilot project was presented at ALA Midwinter 2018 by the developer, Tim Smith, and his librarian counterpart, Twila Camp. This presentation entitled, "Alexa, what is the future of AI in libraries?" was well received.

Ultimately, the libraries joined a campus-wide initiative to bring AI to campus through the vendor, Ivy.AI. You can learn more about OU Libraries partnership with Ivy.AI in their promotional video using The University of Oklahoma as a use case for AI in Higher Education
