Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen


I first read Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in high school. I gained two insights that still influence me daily – I hope. The first was that intelligent people of general good will and intent may unfairly judge others when acting on misinformation. So, always question your sources, their agendas and yourself. Second, as a young woman, I was impressed by Jane Austen’s accomplishments at a time when women’s opportunities were more constrained by society. She is, for me, a model of intelligent perception and demonstrates that a lighthearted observation is no less profound for being entertaining.
