The Search for Form in Art and Architecture
Eliel Saarinen


In my early considerations of architecture, this book by Eliel Saarinen aroused my curiosity about the relationships between architecture and art and their dependence upon truth, goodness, beauty and understanding.

Maybe as much as the whole of the remainder of the book, I was particularly challenged to develop an understanding of one simple sentence: “Form is something which is in man, which grows when man grows, and which declines when man declines.”

Appropriately, Saarinen dedicated his book to: “The Young Minds of All Ages.”
