Covered Wagon Geologist
Charles Newton Gould

Covered Wagon Geologist is the autobiography of Charles Newton Gould (1868-1949). Gould was the founder of both the Oklahoma Geological Survey and the OU School of Geology and Geophysics. Inspired by a love of geology, Gould began teaching at OU in 1900. At the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention in 1906, Gould drafted a provision for the establishment of the Oklahoma Geological Survey. He became the first director of the Survey in 1908. Gould attributed his success in life to the moral virtues inculcated in him by his parents. His persistence, patience, and dedication helped make the University and state of Oklahoma what they are today.
