Books That Inspire 2001

On the Banks of Plum Creek
Laura Ingalls Wilder

My mom gave me this book when I was five, and I’m sure I’ve read it fifty times since. Laura was my hero. She slept in a dugout, survived a grasshopper plague, and braved hailstorms and blizzards. The Little House books taught me that girls could be adventuresome and courageous – and that they could be writers when they grew up.
