Amadeus: A Drama
Peter Shaffer

Peter Shaffer’s intriguing and engaging account of the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart inspired me to learn more about the practice of history at a time when I was pondering moving on from an engineering career. The play left me with many questions concerning the accuracy of the portrayal and as a result of additional study, I achieved my first taste of the joys of historical research. Most significantly, I gained an appreciation of history as much more than a series of dates, but as a way of uncovering the fascinating inter-connections between ideas, events, and personalities.
