Ishi in Two Worlds: A Biography of the Last Wild Indian in North America
Theodora Kroeber

This is the story of an Indian man who survived a merciless period when California Indians were hunted like animals. When I read this book, I was moved by the simple human story of Ishi, and provoked by Kroeber's history of the near destruction of Indians in California. Ishi inspired me to study California Indian history and to tell the story of some of the many unknown Ishis about whom history had been silent.
