Books That Inspire 2005

Rabindranath Tagore

For me, the book Gitanjali by Nobel-laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore is a portal to a world of answers for a lifetime of questions. My parents guided me to read his writings when I was very young; whenever I felt overwhelmed or sad, I simply remembered the philosophy of the verses, or I read it again for the purification of my soul. One of the poems, “Where the Mind is Without Fear,” has been choreographed around the world by dancers from many cultures. I feel honored that I am working at the university which was his birthplace, his home, and which now bears his name.
