Mr. Ambassador: Warrior for Peace
Edward J. Perkins

The life of Ambassador Edward J. Perkins is a true inspiration, and one that will move you to pursue your dreams no matter what the obstacles may be. Raised on a cotton farm in Louisiana by his grandmother, who was a former slave and could not read or write, Perkins became the first black Foreign Service officer for the United States. He was told it couldn't be done. "I had hitched my dream to the Foreign Service, and I never let go," he said. His dream took him to the top post of Director General. In 1996, he joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma.
