The Outsiders
S.E. Hinton

Many discover it by force in junior high English classes and some stumble across it while trying to find their place in the social caste system. Either way, once read, The Outsiders has touched many lives. S.E. Hinton began the book at the age of 15 while living in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With her encouragement, the movie was later filmed there. In the book she borrows a line from Robert Frost, "nothing gold can stay." That line sums up The Outsiders and teaches us to look beyond social boundaries and encourages us all to "stay gold." Something I'm sure Hinton was learning as a teenager growing up in Oklahoma!
