Tulsa! Biography of the American City
Danney Goble

In his introduction to Tulsa! Biography of the American City, Danney Goble states that "academic historians often forget that the historian began as a story-teller." Throughout his book, Danney recounts stories not just of an evolved metropolitan city but of those who brought life to that city.

From Native and African Americans, white desperados, struggling farmers, politicians, millionaires, and women's societies to an 87-year old prostitute, the lives of Tulsa's early inhabitants read much like the pages of my own "Oklahoma" family's colorful past.

Danney's book, as well as his life, have been a true inspiration to me. His work is history as told by an accomplished story-teller and guide.
