Little Giant: The Life and Times of Speaker Carl Albert
Carl Albert, with Danney Goble

Carl Albert was definitely a “Little Giant” in all he did. Working at the Carl Albert Center, I’ve learned a lot about the former Speaker of the House. I’ve heard stories about his accomplishments and his love for his home state. But, hearing the stories second-hand doesn’t compare to reading his words, gaining an insight into his thoughts about certain events and people during his 30 years in the House. Albert may have been a “heartbeat away from the presidency” twice in the 1970s, but it was not the position he sought. Putting Oklahoma first, as he always did, he was content to remain where he was, where he could do more for his state and the nation he loved.
