The capacity for peace is within all of us. By allowing our attention to be fully present in the moment – even in day-to-day things like drinking a cup of tea or washing dishes, and particularly in breathing – we develop an awareness of who we are and an appreciation of the forgotten gifts we have before us. Developing this “life-and-death matter of awareness” serves as a foundation from which to experience our interconnectedness, and to do so with humility, openness, and compassion. Particularly in a time of quick answers that include war and violence, this book reminds me that tranquility is something we can develop in ourselves and, in communion with others, live more consciously, compassionately and peacefully.
