As an Anthropology/Environmental Studies major, Ishmael by Daniel Quinn is essential. I believe it should be required reading for all of humanity. However, it should especially be compulsory reading for Westerners. Our own cultural perceptions and beliefs, and a global view of our actions and behaviors are put into perspective and better understood. Our world's current environmental, political, and economic situation, cry out for change. Ignorant bliss is no longer a state we can choose to lounge in. Ishmael woke me up, and the door cannot be closed on the passion and sense of duty I now feel to be a part of civilization's future. What path will you choose?
