Books That Inspire 2012

Little Women
Louisa May Alcott

When I was about seven years old, my father gave me a beautiful, hardback copy of Little Women for Christmas. The cover illustration wrapped around the entire book. It's a real treasure-very beautiful. He wished me a merry Christmas, dated, and signed the book on the inside. This wasn't my first exposure to reading, but I think this book inspired my love of reading and my love of books as objects-an appreciation for a physical book, as well as what a book can mean when given as a gift. I was very young, but I understood what a treasure the book was. My dad bought the book at one of Oklahoma City's bygone independent bookstores, Bolinger's Books. I still have it on my shelf today.
