Whistle for WillieEzra Jack Keats
The very first book I remember being read to me by a teacher during my kindergarten or first grade year of school was Whistle for Willie. This book struck a chord with me because much of the storyline seemed so normal in my world. Yet, someone thought that it was interesting enough to be printed in a book. This was no typical story of bunnies or bears with human-like qualities and events that occurred. It was just a story about a brown-skinned boy and his desire to learn how to whistle. I was a brown-skinned girl who struggled to do the same.
