Books That Inspire 2012

The World of Pooh
A. A. Milne

My favorite childhood book was The World of Pooh by A.A. Milne and illustrated by the inimitable Ernest Shepherd. My father read it to me and I read it to my son. The innocence and silliness of Pooh, Piglet, Wol (Owl), and Eeyore and how they were loved by Christopher Robin are a lifelong lesson about the affectionate acceptance of friends. Pooh's adventures in his insatiable pursuit of honey still make me smile. Imagining Christopher Robin tromping around in his great rubber boots exploring the Hundred Acre Wood and visiting his friends is probably one reason I have been a backpacker for more than forty years.
