Arrowsmith
Sinclair Lewis

A physician with a strong Midwestern work ethic, a keen mind and deep-flowing curiosity, Dr. Arrowsmith takes a career path to Principal Investigator of a microbiology research laboratory at a major research institution in New York City. Set in the 1920’s, Sinclair Lewis’ novel portrays the state of medicine and the life of a research scientist in his day. You can feel the angst of “what if my experiments fail?”, amidst the backdrop of university politics. Fast forward nearly a century and the life of a scientist at the University of Oklahoma is not so different from that of Martin Arrowsmith.
