Little House in the Big WoodsLaura Ingalls Wilder
I loved the Little House series as a child. It made pioneer life come alive for me by explaining everyday activities in such detail that I could envision what life was like then. Laura Ingalls Wilder does not say, "We went to Grandma's house and made maple syrup." She takes pages to describe bundling up, warming potatoes to keep their hands warm and the iron to keep their feet warm, and hitching up the horses. It was so much more work than walking to the car and turning it on. It made me appreciate how much easier life is now.
