Young Reader’s Choice Award (2006).
Eragon by Christopher Paolini is my choice for an inspiring, award-winning book. I find it inspiring because, even though the title character begins as a simple farm boy and he makes all kinds of mistakes, he learns from them and grows as a person. The fact that he had trouble coming to grips with the jump from farm boy to dragon rider made it more real for me. This book came out when I was a little younger than the title character himself, and while I regretfully lacked a dragon companion, I did identify with Eragon and his struggles.
