Books That Inspire 2013

A Conspiracy of Kings
Megan Whalen Turner

Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Young Adult Literature (2010).

A Conspiracy of Kings is in a series related, to one extent or another, by the thief Eugenides. But not just a common, ordinary thief: a queen's thief. As a queen's thief he can be asked to steal anything; a sacred stone, victory where defeat appears likely, even another monarch or realm. When we first meet Eugenides, he is a prisoner; in A Conspiracy of Kings his profession is quite different, yet he is still practicing thievery via a variety of ways and means. Don't be fooled by the young adult award; this subtle and complex series will be appreciated by teens and adults alike.
