Books That Inspire 2013

The Twilight of Courage
Brock and Bodie Thoene

Gold Medallion Book Award (1995).

Keeping multiple story lines straight and tying characters together always takes great craftsmanship by a writer. The Thoenes do just this in The Twilight of Courage. Set in Europe at the onset of World War II, readers are taken into the lives of Jewish refugees, German officers and their families, American journalists, French cavalry cadets and Parisian students, and British pilots. Somehow, almost everyone ends up connected at the end, and in a way that seems plausible and not contrived. This story of human heroics in the face of adversity makes this an inspiring read every time.
