All Quiet on the Western Front
Erich Maria Remarque
More by This Author
The central thesis of All Quiet on the Western Front concerns how "a generation of men….were destroyed by the war." It is the finest anti-war novel I have ever read. At the same time, it extols the important virtues of duty, honor, friendship, and family. It is a sobering book and addresses the lost innocence of the WWI generation. It was the first piece of literature that I could not put down. Through reading this book, I was inspired to read other literary classics. This book demonstrated to me that classic literature could be exciting, inspirational, insightful, and emotional.
