Wilderness Bonanza: The Tri-State District of Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma
Arrell M.Gibson
More by This Author
Far northeast Oklahoma exhibits a unique history of lead/zinc mining and the environmental, socioeconomic and cultural legacies of long-term and large-scale mineral extraction. Gibson's 1972 classic provides a comprehensive analysis of exploration and development in one of the world's greatest mining fields. Over the last 35 years, the environmental and human health consequences of these endeavors have become well-known; they serve to focus my research and teaching efforts at OU.
Wilderness Bonanza
is a must-read for anyone interested in why the Tar Creek (OK), Oronogo-Duenweg Mining Belt and Newton County Mine Tailings (MO) and Cherokee County (KS) Superfund Sites exist.
