Harris" re:  a treaty between the United States and the Choctaw Nation which would change tribal organization and allotment.  This treaty was approved by the Chickasaw legislature.  The treaty was put to a vote of the people, who rejected it.  Other government matters are also discussed.

26.       South McAlester Capital, July 21, 1898:  "Editorial on R.M. Harris" who appealed 87 citizenship cases from the Court of Appeals of Indian Territory to the Supreme Court of the United States.  These cases were rejected by the Chickasaws and contested as being illegal.

 

27.       Marietta Monitor, August 5, 1898:  "Proclamation Signed by R.M. Harris" of a special election to vote on the ratification of an agreement made between the Choctaws and Chickasaws.
