Textbooks on Reserve

About the Program

Bizzell Memorial Library offers selected required textbooks available free of charge to students. OU Libraries' textbooks on reserve program began with a initiative supported by OU President David Boren to help alleviate the burden of textbooks costs on students, following recommendations by the Presidential and Provost’s Textbook Taskforces and the passage of Oklahoma’s Guaranteed Tuition Bill. Our collection of textbooks primarily cover general education courses that have the highest enrollments as well as courses that have comparatively high-cost textbooks. While University Libraries is not able to purchase textbooks for every course, this approach reaches the greatest number students possible as well as assists those most impacted by textbook costs.

Locating a Textbook on Reserve

To determine if your textbook is available on reserve, use the library's catalog. Within the catalog, perform a title or author search for the desired textbook.

You may also use the Reserve Desk portion of the catalog to search for a textbook by course number or by course name.

Checking Out Textbooks

Textbooks, calculators, laptops, and other technologies are available for a three-hour loan period, and are available for checkout at the main circulation desk near the west entrance of Bizzell Memorial Library.

Textbooks may leave the building but must be returned before the library closes. Textbooks cannot be checked out for an entire semester. You may check out up to three items from Reserves at one time.

Textbooks are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You may not reserve a textbook.
