3D Scanning Campus Crawl

February 3, 2017 - 10:00am to 11:00am

Join us for a walk around campus designed to help you find great subjects for 3D scanning using photogrammetry and AutoDesk Remake, a software freely available through OU IT. Have a favorite sculpture? 3D scan it! Meet at the EDGE in the Bizzell Memorial Library and bring a phone with a camera, DSLR camera, or point-and-shoot camera. Download ReMake to your personal device, if you'd like to continue making your own 3D models.

Galileo's Torch

February 3, 2017 - 7:30pm to February 4, 2017 - 7:30pm

Experience the world premiere performance of James Reston Jr.'s play, Galileo's Torch, performed by the Helmerich School of Drama, Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts, and is co-hosted by the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences and the University of Oklahoma Libraries. 

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 3 and Feb. 4 in the Weitzenhoffer Theater, 563 Elm Ave, Norman, OK
Admission is free, but tickets are required. Please call the Fine Arts Box Office at 405-325-4104

Panel discussion following the Saturday performance with Dr. Steven Livesey, Brian E. and Sandra O'Brien Presidential Professor of the History of Science, Dr. Jane Wickersham, Associate Professor of History, and Mr. James Reston, Jr., playwright and author of the 1994 biography of Galileo.

Introduction to 3D Scanning Workshop

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of scanning objects into 3D. We’ll focus on how to identify good subjects and how to get started using photogrammetry, laser scanning, and the structure sensor. We’ll also discuss the best ways to begin editing, viewing, and sharing your 3D models.

2nd Fridays at the OU Fine Arts Library

February 10, 2017 - 5:30pm

The Fine Arts Library will feature graduate students and composition faculty from the OU School of Music Computer Music Studio during our 2nd Friday Art Walk. The composers will introduce the audience to the genre of electroacoustic music, talk about their compositions and diffuse them live in a quadraphonic speaker setup.

More specifically, the program will include the following fixed media works:

  • Unknown by Zach Daniels
  • Material Processing by Angelos Mitsios
  • A Traveler’s Daydream by Joshua Tomlinson
  • Ode to Kitchen by Konstantinos Karathanasis

In this workshop, you will learn all you need to know to begin working with microcontrollers. We will begin by introducing simple circuits, the Arduino microcontroller and its programming language. We will compare and contrast the Arduino UNO to the Sparkfun Redboard. We will point you towards the Arduino website where you will find official Arduino documentation and example code. We will finish by blinking lights, sensing button presses, and implementing simple logic in code.

The 8th edition of the MLA Handbook provides a new way of thinking about citation that makes it possible to reference just about anything. Come learn about the new flexible “container” concept behind MLA style, and why sometimes there is more than one right way to cite.
