Coding for Videogames

This is a workshop designed to introduce learners to the basic concepts/software behind videogame development currently being done to support virtual reality initiatives at OU Libraries. We will be discussing the hardware and software to create virtual learning environments, and will guide students through the steps necessary to create a simple app using Unity 3D software. Registration is required.

*You will need to bring a laptop with Unity3D pre-installed (and registered) to fully participate in this workshop.

3D Printing Workshop

Come learn about 3D printing in this hands-on workshop. You'll learn about 3D printers, how they work and design a simple souvenir. Bring your laptop pre-installed with the CURA 3d print software and come create with us! Registration is required.

OVAL Overview

O.V.A.L. (Oklahoma Virtual Academic Laboratory)​ allows non-technical users to analyze/manipulate 3D models in virtual reality. Any model, from any field of study can be deployed across a network of headsets in a learning space where limitations concerning scale and perspective are all but nonexistent. Come learn how to use the OVAL to augment your scholarship with virtual reality! Registration is required.

OU Humanities Forum: Forum Fellows Seminar

"Can't Get No STATISFACTION" lecture by Dr. Wayne Stewart

How applicable is statistics to science and academic study in general? A great wave of new articles and applications are appearing within the scientific literature—"Bayesianism" has arrived. What are the two main paradigms of statistics and how do they differ? Why should you study both perspectives? These questions and more will be addressed in this talk. A few simple and not so simple examples will be given to cement the issues.

Introductory Electronics Workshop

February 17, 2016 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm

In this two-hour workshop you will learn all you need to know to begin working with microcontrollers. We will begin by introducing simple circuits, and the the Arduino microcontroller itself and its programming language. We will compare and contrast the Arduino UNO to the Sparkfun Redboard. We will point you towards the Arduino website where you will find official Arduino documentation and example code. We will finish by blinking lights, sensing button presses, and implementing simple logic in code. Registration is required.

Intermediate Electronics Workshop

February 22, 2016 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm

This workshop is a follow-up to the Introductory Electronics Workshop hosted in the EDGE. We will build on topics already covered such as building simple circuits using LEDs and push buttons, serial communication. We will, again, make use of the Sparkfun Inventor's Kits used in the introductory workshop. Sensing analog signals from sensors such as temperature sensors, potentiometers, and ambient light sensors will be discussed. Also being discussed will be a few output devices; motors, servos, and buzzers. Registration is required.

10:00 a.m.—"Galileothek@, Open Access and Special Collections" by Paolo Galluzzi, Director, Museo Galileo Institute of the History of Science Esteemed expert in the history of science, Galluzzi has served as director of the Museo Galileo since 1982 after teaching the history of science at the University of Siena and the University of Florence.

11:00 a.m.—"Forging the Moon" by Nick Wilding, Associate Professor of History, Georgia State University Credited with uncovering the greatest modern rare book forgery, Wilding will examine the impact of forgery on modern research and the responsibilities of institutions and academics in maintaining primary source credibility.

Consolmagno, SJ, Astronomer and Planetary Scientist, Vatican Observatory Consolmagno has held teaching positions at Harvard College Observatory and MIT, and was awarded the Carl Sagan Medal for outstanding communication by an active planetary scientist by the American Astronomical Society in 2014.
