Tracking the Impact of Your Research

March 6, 2017 - 2:00pm

Quantitative metrics such as citation counts have long been used as one approach to measuring the impact of published research. Additional article-level metrics are emerging to capture more details about how research is being used in an online environment. This session will describe some of these metrics and introduce tools that enable researchers to understand and interpret both new and traditional measures of the impact of their work.

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of scanning objects into 3D. We’ll focus on how to identify good subjects and how to get started using photogrammetry, laser scanning, and the structure sensor. We’ll also discuss the best ways to begin editing, viewing, and sharing your 3D models. ​

Software Carpentry

March 13, 2017 - 8:00am to March 14, 2017 - 5:00pm

This 2-day Software Carpentry workshop is part of an ongoing series hosted by the OU Libraries designed to help teach computing skills and best practices to faculty, staff and students to get more done with less pain. The workshop will be covering Bash (command shell), Python, and Git/GitHub to help participants learn the process of creating shell scripts in bash and python to serve as tools to help them in their research activities. 

Topics this workshop will be the command shell, Git and GitHub, and R as the programming language. 

This workshop is the second of three scheduled for the Spring 2017 semester and is geared for beginning coders. Intermediate coders can get help with their questions during open office hours every Thursday from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. in the Digital Scholarship Lab and Fridays from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Innovation Hub; no appointment is needed.

Introduction to Microcontrollers Workshop

March 14, 2017 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

In this workshop, you will learn all you need to know to begin working with microcontrollers. We will begin by introducing simple circuits, the Arduino microcontroller and its programming language. We will compare and contrast the Arduino UNO to the Sparkfun Redboard. We will point you towards the Arduino website where you will find official Arduino documentation and example code. We will finish by blinking lights, sensing button presses, and implementing simple logic in code.

Learn Citation Management with Zotero

March 27, 2017 - 3:00pm

Zotero is a free, easy-to-use, and remarkably flexible citation management tool. When you visit websites that contain records for books, articles, or other sources, Zotero can add them to your personal library and create bibliographic records for them automatically—all with a single click. This one-hour session will give you the basics so that you can start searching, saving, and organizing on your own. Users are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops to the session so that they can install the program.
