Books That Inspire 2003

Franny and Zooey
J.D. Salinger

Franny and Zooey influenced me quite a bit. First of all it introduced me to J. D. Salinger, whom I somehow overlooked and was never required reading in my small town high school of Walters, Oklahoma. After my introduction to the Glass family in Franny and Zooey, I consumed all the other Salinger books and much to my delight the Glass family had many more stories to tell. I feel Salinger’s stories are integral, necessary and still highly influential. There have been many arguments made that Wes Anderson’s great film, The Royal Tenenbaums is basically a Glass family story retold. I would agree.
