Mr. Ambassador: Warrior for Peace
Edward J. Perkins with Connie Cronley

As an undergraduate student at the University of Missouri in the 1980s, I was only vaguely aware of the world-changing events taking place on the continent of Africa and in the Republic of South Africa. Later, in the 1990s, as an active-duty officer in the U.S. Air Force serving overseas, I learned more about the U.S. Foreign Service and developed a respect for the mission these brave people perform every day. This eminently readable narrative provides a window that allows the reader to see some of the background behind major international events for the last decades of the twentieth century. I had the privilege to work with Ambassador Perkins on this book. As I was reading through it, I had trouble keeping my editorial focus. I kept getting lost in the drama of the story, even though I had read through most of the manuscript before. My reaction at the end of the book was an emotional gut reaction - hope.
