Books That Inspire 2012

The Sneetches and Other Stories
Theodor Seuss Geisel

Dr. Seuss books were a staple of my childhood and a great influence on my literacy. Mom and Dad read this book to my sister and I thousands of times. The magic of Dr. Seuss is the combination of unique characters, rhyme, made-up words, a manageably small vocabulary, and fantastic illustrations. Dr. Seuss books are also where I learned about reading books at different levels. The made-up world of Sneetches and star bellies gave way to a later lesson about the ridiculousness of racism. This particular book contains two of my favorite Dr. Seuss tales: "The Sneetches" and "The Zax."
