A Dog Called Kitty
Bill Wallace

Oklahoma Library Association Sequoyah Children’s Book Award (1983), Texas Bluebonnet Award (1983), and Nebraska Golden Sower Award (1983).

While my memory of A Dog Called Kitty as a story is sketchy at best, it is the first novel I remember sharing with a group of people. My second grade teacher, Mrs. Bonham, would read aloud from the book each day after recess, and I remember, as a class, begging for her to read just a little bit more rather than resume coursework because we were so engrossed in the story. It taught me the power of story both to engage and to unite people around a common cause, even if, at the time, that cause was merely entertainment.
