Nightmare on Research Street 2020: The Zoom Call Is Coming From Inside the Library

The third annual Nightmare on Research Street, co-hosted by Graduate Student Life and University Libraries, happened in spite of the pandemic and an unusual and historic October ice storm hitting Oklahoma.  Thanks to support from our co-hosts, we were able to offer six prizes for those brave souls offering up tales of research and data terror to help us all remember to back up our work.  Over a dozen students, faculty, and staff joined us at the awards ceremony.

People’s Choice for Twitter went to the McNair Scholars’ Program for their postings on dissertation and grant proposal file loss.  Their $50 OU Bookstore voucher will be given to a McNair Scholar.  People’s Choice for Instagram went to Meelyn Pandit, Graduate Student in Biology, with his scary video about hard drive woes during remote field work.  Fittingly, Meelyn won a 2 TB External Hard Drive.

Random prize draws went to Dolly Na-Yemah (Graduate Student in Geography & Environmental Sustainability; $50 OU Bookstore Voucher), Necia Parker-Gibson (Agriculture Librarian at University of Arkansas; $50 OU Bookstore Voucher), Brett Bonine (Graduate Student in Physics & Astronomy; $25 Amazon Gift Card), and Dr. Angela Person (Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture; $25 Amazon Gift Card).

See all the great entries on Twitter and Instagram! Talk to an information specialist at OU Libraries or request a backup workshop to get your files safely stowed.  Need help with the graduate student or postdoc experience?  Check out the resources available from Graduate Student Life.

Please join us next year for more tales of research terror!
