ORCID
Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a non-profit, non-proprietary community-based system that provides a unique digital identifier to distinguish you from every other researcher. This registry of unique identifiers is maintained and allows for a transparent method of linking research activities and outputs to those identifiers. One of the goals is to help prevent author confusion. ORCID also provides the framework to help maintain an author's record and to help simplify reporting and analysis.
Do you worry about getting credit for your research because your name is common or you have publications under multiple aliases?
Do you struggle to keep track of all of your research outputs? Are you annoyed by having to enter the same information over and
over in manuscript and grant submission systems?
Why ORCID?
- Researchers own and control what information in their ORCID profile may be shared. (See ORCID's privacy policy.)
- Links authors to their scholarly output including datasets, articles, conference preprints and other works.
- Research output from other sources (including ResearcherID, Scopus, and DataCite) can easily be imported.
- Numerous organizations and publishers integrate with ORCID including American Geophysical Union, American Physical Society, and CERN. (See a complete list of integrators.)
- Registration is free.
- This is not another social network.
- Be able to use and display your ORCID on websites: http://orcid.org/0000-0001-5544-0976

ORCID @ OU
The University Libraries and the University of Oklahoma are members of ORCID as part of a consortium formed by the Greater Western Library Alliance. ORCID integration is being added to the institutional repository ShareOK which will automatically link with a researcher's ORCID profile.
ORCID is also part of the OU Impact Challenge and is in fact the first chapter with a very nice walkthrough of the registration process.
