Pitfalls & Epiphanies is a lecture series hosted by the University of Oklahoma Libraries. We’re excited to share this research lecture series with everyone – from students and faculty to the broader community – hoping it will enhance your understanding and appreciation of real-life research experiences.
Trials & Triumphs: One Faculty Members’ Journey from Practitioner to Researcher
On March 27 from 4-5 p.m. in the Bizzell Memorial Library LL118 Community Room, with a brief reception to follow the lecture, Dr. Brittany Hott is presenting “Trials & Triumphs: One Faculty Members’ Journey from Practitioner to Researcher.” Dr. Hott will share her transformation from practitioner to practice-based researcher in special education and beyond. She will discuss how she navigated the tenure track and a growing research agenda while balancing dual careers and raising four children. She will highlight her early work building partnerships with rural schools in Virginia and Pennsylvania, then Texas, and now Oklahoma and beyond; the power of community; and how many setbacks led to successes. Dr. Hott will discuss how she developed 5-year flexible plans that incorporated measurable goals and clear objectives to reach research goals at each stage of the tenure track. This session is appropriate for faculty and research staff at all stages of their careers.
Brittany L. Hott, Ph.D., BCBA-D is an associate director at the Institute for Community and Society Transformation (ICAST) and Professor of Special Education in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Oklahoma.
