OU Celebrates International Open Access Week

Image
Open Access week runs October 24 through October 28

After the summer 2022 announcement from the White House Office of Science and Technology that all federally-funded research must be made immediately publicly available and to celebrate the annual International Open Access Week, OU will host two events to raise awareness of the benefits of making academic research and creative work more accessible to the public.

Open Access Champions Showcase on Tuesday, October 25th features four OU faculty members who will share their experiences broadening the availability of their own work as well as the work of researchers around the world.

The Open Access Champions Showcase event is Tuesday, October 25th from 2 to 3 pm in the Bizzell Memorial Library’s community room, LL118. It is sponsored by University Libraries and Center for Faculty Excellence. Visit Open Access Champions Showcase for more information.

Internationally recognized lawyer and librarian and Harvard Copyright Advisor Kyle Courtney will give a talk on October 27 titled, “Retain Your Rights to Make Your Work Openly Accessible.”

Courtney’s work for Harvard’s Office for Scholarly Communication has been instrumental to the success of Harvard’s open access policies. He also established a Copyright First Responders program that fosters campus-wide engagement with copyright and has grown into a national network.

Courtney will discuss how researchers can leverage their author rights to ensure compliance with open access policies like the new White House mandate and thereby reach a wider audience.

Courtney’s talk is 10:30 am to 12 pm in the Bizzell community room, LL118. It is sponsored by University Libraries, Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost, Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships, and Faculty Senate. Registration is required.
