Your ArcGIS Online Account
The University of Oklahoma currently has institutional accounts set up for ArcGIS Online. To use your automatically created account, go to the OU ArcGIS login page and click "Use your University of Oklahoma login" to be directed to sign-in via SSO.
If you do not have an OU account or you want to create your own personal one, you may want to sign up for a free ArcGIS Developer account. While this account doesn't have all the features of the institutional account, it does have a lot more than the standard ArcGIS Online account. Once created, you can log in using ArcGIS Online as normal, so you don't have to use the "developer" site if you don't want to.
The Tutorial
The tutorial (YouTube playlist): A Beginner's Guide to Mapping in ArcGIS Online by Esri Canada.
For context going into this tutorial, ArcGIS is currently implementing a new interface and new features into their map building experience. With the New Map Viewer, the interface has been updated and certain features are now accessed through different locations. Users are still able to use the older version of the map builder, which is now referred to as "Map Viewer Classic." Because ArcGIS has not fully switched to the New Map Viewer, some features such as Analysis Tools are only available in Map Viewer Classic and there are few online tutorials which explain the New Map Viewer.
Because the New Map Viewer has yet to be finalized, this video playlist may be slightly different from the current version of the New Map Viewer. The differences as of 11/08/2021 are small and are usually related to the order in which ArcGIS asks for information. In the video "Working with CSV in ArcGIS Online" at (2:45), users need to go to "New Item" then "Your device" to upload a CSV and leave the data as a hosted feature layer instead of following the directions in the video.
Furthermore, some aspects of the tutorial are only relevant to specific account types. The tutorial video "Sharing Your Maps Using ArcGIS Instant Apps" can only be completed using an institutional account provided by the university (requires OU email and password) or an account with higher status. Specifically, free public accounts or free developer accounts will not suffice.
Though the entire playlist is recommended to better understand ArcGIS's map building experience, those who do not have time to watch the whole thing should try to focus on these videos in this order: Mapping Your Data, Adding Layers in Map Viewer, Style with Meaning, and Configuring Popups.
