Placing a Request

All requests must come directly from an institution and cannot be submitted by individuals.  

If your library is a member of OCLC, please submit a request using OCLC Resource Sharing. The University of Oklahoma Norman OCLC code is OKU.  

If your library is not a member of OCLC, you can submit an email request using an ALA request form or provide a basic email that includes your complete institution information and a complete citation for the item that you would like to borrow. If possible, please search our catalog and include our call number.

Costs

Loans are free to all institutions.  

Copy requests are free to all Oklahoma non-profit institutions and Oklahoma libraries. If your institution is for profit or is outside of Oklahoma and you are not part of an already existing reciprocal agreement with the University of Oklahoma, each copy request is $25. You can pay by check, IFM, or with IFLA vouchers.

Lending Policies

Any item in Bizzell Memorial Library or at a branch library that is located in the regular stacks can be borrowed. All audio-visual materials can also be borrowed, as well as items in our microforms collection. Each item will be given a 60 day loan period and can be renewed for a maximum of 120 additional days. All items are subject to immediate recall if needed by our own users.  

Any item located in reference or a special collection cannot be borrowed; copies may be possible. If you need copies from an item that is held in the Western History Collections, please see their Photocopy Policies before submitting an ILL request. You may be required to submit your request directly to the Western History Collections, depending on the type of item you are requesting.

Shipping Items

Loans are shipped using USPS library rate. If an item is needed more urgently, a Fed-Ex or UPS account number must be provided. All charges for shipping will be charged to that account.  

Copies will be sent to your institution’s email address as a PDF or via Odyssey.
