Proxy Check-Out: Your Responsibilities

Certain borrowers may designate another person or persons as their proxy, who may check out library materials in their name. A faculty member or administrator may request a proxy authorization for a student worker, a spouse, or a child.

In all these cases the person who signs for the proxy will be responsible for all items checked out under the proxy arrangement. Any fines or replacement fees are the sole responsibility of the person who fills out the proxy form, and not the proxy holder. This must be clearly understood by the person who fills the proxy application form.

For more information about proxy arrangements, please call our circulation desk at (405) 325-3341. Proxy arrangements can be obtained by completing the web form, or by visiting the Circulation Desk at Bizzell or any branch library. Your proxy must be a current faculty, staff, student, or other registered patron at OU Libraries.

Every time your proxy presents their ID to check out items, he or she will be asked by the desk attendant if these are for his or her own personal use or for you.

Please alert the circulation department as soon as possible if your proxy arrangement changes for any reason. If you feel your proxy is using the proxy privileges fraudulently and borrowing books for their own personal use rather than for you, you should report it to us as soon as possible so we can attempt to block further use. You can check your own account for unauthorized activity at any time by logging in to the library website with your 4x4, clicking on My Account, then choosing Loans to find a list of all books checked out in your name. You are responsible for anything checked out on your card up to the time you report its misuse.
