E-Resources for Performing Arts

National Theatre Collection II includes 20 live theatre productions from the UK's National Theatre. Additional resources include digitized archival materials such as scripts, costume designs, and photographs. Productions range from Greek legend and Shakespeare to a wealth of literary adaptations and contemporary plays, including musical theatre. Highlights include All My Sons staring Sally Field and Bill Pullman, After Life, adapted from Hirokazu Kore-eda's award-winning film, and Shakespeare's Paradise performed by an all female company.  

Offers streaming access to over 133,000 classical music CDs and over two million tracks, both standard and rare repertoire.

New Play Exchange (NPX) is the world's largest digital library of scripts by living writers. NPX is created by the National New Play Network, an alliance of professional theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays.

Provides full text plays from American Indian and First Nation playwrights of the 20th century. More than half of the works are previously unpublished, and hard to find, representing groups such as Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Pembina Chippewa, Ojibway, Comanche, Cree, Navajo, Rappahannock, and others.

Provides access to streaming videos of opera performances, captured on video through staged productions, interviews, and documentaries.

Access journals covering the humanities, social sciences, and mathematics. Some full text is available.

International index to vocal and instrumental music materials, including articles, books, bibliographies, catalogs, conference proceedings, discographies, dissertations, ethnographic recordings, Festschriften, films, iconographies, reviews, and videos.

Includes two fully-searchable databases containing information from approximately 170 prompt-books for productions of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Productions range from the seventeenth century to the 1980s.

Provides access to streaming videos of BBC Shakespeare plays on the Ambrose Digital website.

This site integrates the full text of Shakespeare's plays and poems with the entire glossary database, allowing you to search for any word or phrase in Shakespeare's works, and in particular to find all instances of all words that can pose a difficulty to the modern reader.

Includes the published recordings owned by the non-profit Smithsonian Folkways Recordings label and the archival audio collections of Folkways Records, Cook, Dyer-Bennet, Fast Folk, Monitor, Paredon and other labels. This resource also includes music recorded around the African continent by Dr. Hugh Tracey for the International Library of African Music (ILAM) at Rhodes University, as well as material collected by recordists on the South Asian subcontinent from the Archive Research Centre for Ethnomusicology (ARCE).
