Scholarly Communication is "the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use.”* This can be through formal means, such as journal articles and book chapters, and it can also be through informal (or less traditional) means, such as professional listservs, blog posts, and social media exchanges.
Librarians at the University of Oklahoma Libraries (OU Libraries) provide scholarly communication assistance on such issues as:
- locating reputable, scholarly journals in which to publish
- avoiding questionable or "predatory" publishers
- translating, explaining, and negotiating publishing contracts (author rights)
- consultation about open access options and open access publishing support
- advising graduate students about public access and embargoes of theses and dissertations
- sharing research outputs more broadly through SHAREOK
- publishing an open access, scholarly journal in your discipline by partnering with OU Libraries Publishing Services
