E-Resources for History & Primary Resources

This collection provides insight into the history of individual countries, as well as broad viewpoints on key historic events. Key topics include the decline of colonialism, the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Suez Crisis, the Cold War, the rise of the petroleum industry, the establishment of the state of Israel, the Iran-Iraq War, and the recent Arab Spring. Content is predominantly in Arabic, but includes key titles in English and French. Includes access to over 80 publications, including Jumhuriyah (الجمهورية, Egypt), Filastin (فلسطين‏, Palestine), Al Akhbar (الاخبار‏, Lebanon), Al Riadh (الرياض‏, Saudi Arabia), and Ad Dustour (‏الدستور, Jordan).

Provides access to published sources for the study of German history from the end of the Roman Empire to 1500. Resources include historical works, charters, legal texts, letters, political texts, and literature from the European Middle Ages.

Established in East Berlin in 1946 as the official organ of the former German Democratic Republic, Neues Deutschland provides firsthand accounts of the 20th century's most momentous events from the Cold War's epicenter - the establishment of the German Democratic Republic, the Berlin Airlift, the Soviet space program, speeches by Presidents Kennedy and Reagan, the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the reunification of Germany, and much more. The Neues Deutschland Digital Archive contains all obtainable published issues from 1946 onward, with an additional year's worth of content added on an annual basis.

Nearly 26,000 pamphlets bringing together a corpus of primary sources for the study of sociopolitical and economic factors impacting 19th-century Britain. Collections include Cowen Tracts (1603-1898), Earl Grey Pamphlets Collection (1800-1900), Foreign and Commonwealth Office Collection (1545-1900), Hume Tracts (1769-1890), Knowsley Pamphlet Collection (1792-1868), Selections – University of Manchester British Political Pamphlets Collection (1799-1900), Selections – London School of Economics and Political Science (1800-1899), Selections – University of Bristol (1800-1899), and Wilson Anti-Slavery Collection (1761-1900).

North American Indian Thought and Culture is a database on indigenous peoples from all areas of North America. This collection presents the life stories and historical events of American Indians and Canadian First Peoples as told in their own words. Resources include autobiographies, biographies, Indian publications, oral histories, personal writings, photographs, drawings, and audio files. Biographies include works on Quanah Parker, Dennis Banks, Susan La Flesche Picotte, Crowfoot, Peter Pitchlynn, Sacajawea, Black Elk, Standing Buffalo, and others.

This collection provides full text access to the personal writings of more than 1,300 North American women from all classes and walks of life. All age groups, all life stages, many ethnicities, and many geographical regions are represented, from colonial times to 1950. Resources include diaries and letters, as well as biographies.

This database contains translated and English-language radio and television broadcasts, newspapers, periodicals, government documents, and books providing global reaction to the world Arms Race. The collection allows researchers to trace not only the development and spread of the world's most dangerous weapons, but also regional reactions, treaties and agreements, and efforts to limit nuclear proliferation.
