OU Libraries Content in Canvas Commons
As an instructor, you can add OU Libraries Canvas pages to your Canvas course. These resources will connect your students with OU Libraries and its resources while they are working in your course.
Types of OU Libraries pages that can be imported into courses
- Ask Us research help page: students will be able to submit research questions via chat or email.
- Librarian contact pages: students can schedule consultation appointments or email the librarian, who can help connect them to OU Libraries' resources.
- Research Guide pages: students can access OU Libraries' resources to start their research.
Access Canvas Commons
- Login to Canvas.
- Click on the Canvas Commons icon in the left sidebar.
Import OU Libraries Content to Canvas Course
- On the Canvas Commons search page, type OU Libraries Online in the search box.
- Scroll through the search results until you find the page you want to import into your course.
- When you’ve selected the OU Libraries page that you want added to your course, click on the Import/Download button.
- Select a specific course or select the all course option.
- Click on the Import Into Course button.
- After you’ve clicked on the import button, a message should appear that says you’ve successfully started the import.
- After the import is finished, the page will be located in Pages on the course navigation sidebar.
Adding the OU Libraries Page to a Module
After the page has been successfully imported into your course, you can make the OU Libraries page accessible to your students by adding it to a module.
- You can either create a brand new module or add the page to an existing module.
- Select Page from the Add dropdown menu.
- Select the OU Libraries page you imported.
- Click on the Add Item button.
- Once the page is added to a module, your students will be able to access it and get help from OU Libraries while they are working in your Canvas course.
Adding Page Widgets to Course Components
If you don't use Modules in your Canvas course, you can edit the libraries' page you imported into your course in order to add the widgets onto a page, an assignment, an announcement, or discussion post that you've already created in Canvas.
- Navigate to Pages and open the OU Libraries page you imported to your course.
- On the libraries page, click on the Edit button.
- On the Edit screen, click on HTML Editor.
- In the HTML Editor, select all of the text from the first <iframe> tag to the last </iframe> tag.
- Copy the selected text, and then click on the Save button.
- Open the component you the widgets added.
- Edit the component, and then click on HTML Editor.
- In the HTML Editor, paste the <iframe></iframe> text you copied.
- Click on Save.
- Once the widgets have been added to the component, your students will be able to access it and help from OU Libraries while they are working in your Canvas course.
