Discovery Services
The Discovery Services department is responsible for the management and upkeep of library service platforms and software. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- maintaining the appearance and functionality of the public-facing discovery layer and link resolver (Discover);
- managing the access and authentication software (EZProxy) that enables access to library resources from off-campus;
- management of the archival collection finding aids search tool (ArchivesSpace);
- administration of the library service platform (Alma);
- administration of the inventory control software (Zasio) used at OU Libraries' offsite storage facilities;
- ensure metadata consistency across: Digital Collections, SHAREOK, and OU Libraries Published Journals repositories;
- administration of the Lean Library research tool.
RECENT PROJECTS
New Open Access top level filter in Local Catalog |
An Open Access top level filter is now available in the Local Catalog. This will allow users to isolate Open Access results when they do a catalog search. |
New Open Access indicators in local records in catalog |
Open Access indicators have been added to local open access records in the catalog. This means that local records are now included in filtered Open Access results in Discover and Local Catalog searches. |
New thumbnails for OU Libraries Published Journals |
OU Libraries Published Journals now display logo/cover art thumbnails instead of generic article/journal icons in Discover. |
Report a (DSpace) Problem |
ShareOK and OJS records in Discover, now have Report a Problem links. |
Special Research Collections search scope |
We have a new Discover search scope that allows users to search for Special Research Collections items across five libraries and includes records that point to ArchivesSpace and Islandora. |
Discover Search Boxes |
Several new Discover search box options are now available for use in LibGuides and for embedding in websites. If you’d like to have one created, please make a request via Help.Libraries. |
Unlimited Access e-Books search scope |
We have a new Discover search scope that allows users to search for e-books with unlimited simultaneous users. It is also a new top limiter option in the facets in Discover. |
Related Subject Headings |
We have removed “Related Subject Headings” from the full display of Discover records. For now, they are only visible if you do a Subject Browse search. |
Journal coverage visibility |
Coverage dates have been added to brief display for journals |
Discover Resource Type improvements |

Scholarly Communication & Collection Management furthers the Libraries' mission by promoting and supporting all aspects of scholarly communication, the process whereby scholars at all levels, undergraduates through faculty, learn, create and share their knowledge with the academic community and the broader public. The division also manages the technical processes involved in preserving and making scholarly resources available to the academic community and beyond.
Units in Scholarly Communication & Collection Management
- Acquisitions acquires and processes payments for materials selected for the Libraries’ collections in all formats, as well as maintaining access to electronic resources.
- Collection Management oversees the selection, acquisition, and disposition of the Libraries' physical and electronic collections located in Bizzell Memorial Library, the branch libraries, and storage.
- Description & Access processes and makes accessible print and electronic materials via Discover Local.
- Open Initiatives & Scholarly Communication provides advocacy, information, programs, and services designed to increase information access.
- Storage & Delivery shelves and stores library materials in University Libraries’ facilities, on-campus and in remote locations, as well as overseeing interlibrary loan and on-campus document delivery services.
